RESIDUE OF GESTURE SERIES
The Residue of Gesture Series opens up a narrative of associations engendered by objects,
their possible stories, the still life of things left behind. I am interested in the accumulation of
gestures by humankind and/or nature in objects found. I am also interested in the forensic
aspect of looking (having been a detective's daughter) at things seemingly inert, but given life
by personal association.
By isolating each object as an actual-size portrait, the object is decontextualized and
reinvested with meaning, opening to new narratives. As I find each object I note it's location,
creating another gesture to continue the narrative. Unseen as a whole is place. Each image is a
limited edition of 20, printed on double-sided 300 gsm Moab Entrada archival paper.
Within this series is a body of Photogravure images that reveal an abstract sense of place. These
images are printed on Somerset Satin paper, in a limited edition of 10. When installing this
work, one Photogravure image is arranged in a linear fashion with 2 or 3 object images.
